Local MP plays key role

Richard Bacon MP today joined developer C-Zero at Diss’ most innovative housing development, Long Meadow, to present its latest residents with the keys to their new home.

Philippa Hawes and Aaron Lawther became the proud owners of a sustainable three-bedroom home. However, when the couple originally enquired at the beginning of 2011 they faced disappointment on discovering that the first phase of the development had completely sold out within a couple of months of being launched and the showhome that they fell in love with would not be available for some time. Determined to have their home at Long Meadow, their patience was rewarded when it was agreed that they could purchase the former showhome sooner than expected.

As he handed the keys over to the happy couple, Richard Bacon MP commented: “Long Meadow is a very welcome addition to Diss, providing affordable housing for over 100 local families. We are proud that a development in our town is setting the standard when it comes to sustainable homes. All 114 properties will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes - an important step towards the Coalition Government’s aim that all new homes should achieve zero carbon status by 2016.”

C-Zero’s extensive expertise of delivering sustainable housing has enabled the pioneering development to be delivered for the same cost as traditionally constructed properties. A combination of clever thinking, cost-effective materials and tight control over design and cost ensures eligible residents are able to stay in their local communities and get a home which is not only cost effective to buy, but cost effective to run.

C-Zero director, Simon Linford, explains, ‘We are thrilled that local people, such as Philippa and Aaron, have responded so positively to Long Meadow and are able to take ownership of truly ground-breaking homes. It has taken a great deal of work to get this far and we look forward to completing the rest of the development. It is particularly rewarding for us to see first-hand the difference the development is making.’
